As a home brewer who has been brewing with my trusty Aeropress Original for 10 years, I will summarize my thoughts on the differences between the Aeropress Original and the Aeropress Go.

Aeropress Vs Aeropress Go: 9 Key Differences
Looking at Aeropress VS Aeropress Go from a larger perspective, there really isn’t much of a difference. For one, the Aeropress Go filter and the Aeropress Classic filter are similar.
However, I feel that each of the changes made to the Aeropress Go has an intent in mind and maybe a deciding factor for you on which of these to get.
Without babbling further, here are the 9 differences that you need to know about before purchasing an Aeropress.
1. Size
Visually, the Aeropress Go looks smaller than the Aeropress Original. This is because the Aeropress Go was designed to fit into the Aeropress Go mug that comes with the Aeropress Go for lightweight travelers.
For me, I bring my Aeropress along when I travel for vacation and the Aeropress Original size does not really eat up my luggage space. Furthermore, I rarely go out camping and hiking and so the Aeropress Go is not a necessity for me.
Here are the dimensions for both Aeropress versions for your comparison.

2. Weight
In terms of weight, the Aeropress Original is 2.5 oz (70 grams) heavier than the Aeropress Go.
But for hikers, the difference in weight is an utmost important factor. Every additional weight on the backpack means additional stress on the body during a hike.
Hence, if you intend to bring your Aeropress everywhere you go and love traveling light, the Aeropress Go is the better choice.
Here are the dimensions for both the Aeropress versions along with the accessories for your comparison.

As you can see, the Aeropress Classis is 76.82% more heavier than the Aeropress Go!
3. Brewing
The most important question here is “Is the brewing method different for the Aeropress and Aeropress Go?”
Short answer, no.
Fundamentally, both Aeropresses have the same design and that is why the brewing mechanics do not differ at all. With a gooseneck kettle and the respective Aeropresses, you are gold.
Go ahead and brew your favorite Aeropress recipe on either Aeropress version. If you are using the same type of beans and a similar roast profile, I am sure both the Aeropress and Aeropress Go coffee are equally great.

4. Funnel
Looking at both the accessory list, the evident difference between the Aeropress classic vs Go is that the classic comes with an extra funnel. This funnel’s purpose is to make sure your coffee grounds do not spill everywhere as you pour them into the brew chamber.
Personally, I have rarely made use of the funnel with my Aeropress. The Aeropress width is wide enough and you certainly will not make a mess even without the funnel in place.
So if you intend to get the Aeropress Go but are also afraid to miss out on the funnel, I can safely say that you can certainly make do without it.
5. Price
As far as price goes, both Aeropress versions are similar. This is great as the price will not be a deciding factor when considering Aeropress VS Aeropress Go.
At this time of writing, the price of both Aeropress Classic and Aeropress go is $39.95.
Furthermore, you do get all the core accessories that you need to brew awesome coffee with your Aeropress, both Original and Go.
Oftentimes, in order to save money you may opt for a cheaper option if you are a newbie venturing into the world of coffee. Conversely, you may associate the higher-priced option with better quality and performance.
Safe to say, you can skip the pricing factor here.
6. Chamber Volume
Since the Aeropress Go is slightly smaller in size compared to the Aeropress Original, naturally you will be able to brew less coffee with the Aeropress Go.
The chamber volume of the Aeropress Go is 8 oz (237 ml) while the Aeropress Original measures up to 10 oz (296 ml). However, you will be able to brew most of the Aeropress recipes out there which are usually intended for one person.
When hiking and camping with an Aeropress Go, you may not be able to share too much of your coffee with your buddies. Alternatively, you can brew a more concentrated coffee by using more coffee grounds and then dilute it for sharing.
7. Stirrer
Both the Aeropress versions come with a stirrer and both the designs look different physically.
First, the Aeropress Original stirrer is a T-shaped paddle. The length is long enough for you to scrape the inner chamber of the Aeropress. Overall, it works pretty great for its intent.
On the other hand, the Aeropress Go stirrer has a Swiss Army Knife design. The stirrer is foldable and it seems great for storage. However, I do feel that the stirrer for the Aeropress Go is slightly more difficult to use compared to the Aeropress Original.
8. Filter Holder
The filter holders for both Aeropress Original and Aeropress Go are pretty different.
For the Aeropress Original, the filter holder is a miniature tower that is able to fit all 350 filters that come with it while the Aeropress Go comes with a miniature filter lid that can store up to 20 coffee filter papers.
If you are traveling, there is unfortunately no way to secure the Aeropress filters in place in the filter holder for the Aeropress Original. However, if you are just brewing on your countertop at home, the filter holder does its job well.
On the other hand, the filter lid that comes with the Aeropress Go works great when you are traveling. The small compact size fits 20 filters which are plenty for a single hiking or camping trip.
9. Traveling Kit
Aeropress is a coffee gear that allows you to make great coffee wherever you go. Hence, both Aeropress versions come with a traveling kit for this purpose.
The Aeropress Original comes with a tote bag to fit in the Aeropress and all the accompanying accessories. There is ample space for other things like a cup and also a small coffee bean canister.
The Aeropress Go on the other hand is designed with a lightweight and compact theme. All of the accessories including the Aeropress Go can fit into the mug (shown below!) that comes along with the purchase of the Aeropress Go.

Should you get the Aeropress or Aeropress Go?
When it comes to Aeropress VS Aeropress Go, the difference isn’t major, and in my personal opinion, either will do just fine. Both are easy to use and definitely easy to clean.
But if you do need a justification to make a decision, read on.
Before deciding if you should get the Aeropress or Aeropress Go, you should first understand your needs. The way I see it, the Aeropress Original and Aeropress Go target different market needs; home use and portable use.
First of all, let’s evaluate some of the evident differences which are the size, weight, and chamber volume.

As we can see, the Aeropress Go is smaller in size, lighter in weight, and has a smaller chamber volume for coffee brewing. All of these factors point towards coffee brewers who love to bring their Aeropress outdoors.
To summarize it all in two sentences:
- If you are a regular home brewer and usually only brew at home the Aeropress Original is perfect for you.
- If you travel regularly and love having Aeropress on the go, the Aeropress Go will be your best companion due to its compact size design.
Author’s Note: If you own the classic Aeropress, I personally don’t think you will need to get the new Aeropress Go. You will be able to brew the same great coffee with the original Aeropress.

Aeropress: A Brief History
Let’s start with the history of Aeropress.
The Aeropress was invented by Alan Adler, an American inventor who designs aerodynamic toys under the brand name, Aerobie and coincidentally a coffee enthusiast. The slow brewing time of drip coffee during his time coupled with the bitterness of drip coffee frustrates Alan.
With the intention to brew coffee quicker and taste great, Alan starts drawing out sketches of the Aeropress and the rest is history.
Brewing With An Aeropress
Brewing with an Aeropress is extremely forgiving and this is great news for coffee newbies. In fact, it was my very first coffee gear when I first ventured into the world of coffee.
Now that Aeropress has made waves throughout the world, there are plenty of variations of Aeropress recipes out there; each proclaiming to be the best. In fact, there is even a World Aeropress Championship held annually!

Author’s Note: I’d highly recommend using whole coffee beans instead of pre-ground coffee. Whole coffee beans preserve coffee’s freshness and flavor longer compared to pre-ground coffee.
Metal Filters For Both Aeropress?
The other concern in deciding between Aeropress vs Aeropress Go is the metal filters, especially for Aeropress Original owners. Reusable metal filters for Aeropress have recently gained popularity as we start to address sustainability for coffee brewing.
So, can you use the same metal filters for both Aeropress and Aeropress Go?
Well, unfortunately, no.
The diameter for both the Aeropress versions is different. So you cannot interchange the use of metal filters on the Aeropress Original and Aeropress Go. So, if you are planning to get Aeropress Go filters, please be wary of the dimensions before making your purchase.

Is The Aeropress Go Any Good?
The Aeropress Go is a great choice if you love traveling and also make great coffee at the same time. A notable improvement on the original portable press, the Go makes great coffee quickly. The design has been engineered to be compact and does not take up a lot of storage space.
Is Aerobie The Same As Aeropress?
The AeroPress gets its name from a sister product made by the same company: the Aerobie, which is the company owned by Alan Adler who is also the inventor of the Aeropress. This fantastic coffee gear was invented to brew coffee that is consistently great and extremely forgiving to its user.
Do Aeropress And Aeropress Go Use The Same Filters?
In essence, both Aeropress and Aeropress Go use paper filters, although reusable metal filters are also available to purchase. But since the Aeropress Go size and dimensions are smaller, the filters for the Aeropress go are comparatively smaller. So be wary when getting your filters for your Aeropress type.
